Bandar Anzali, a city with a humid, rainy climate located next to the Caspian Sea, has always been one of the attractive tourist destinations in Iran. However, what keeps a coastal city alive at night and gives it a modern identity is the smart design of public spaces and beautiful lighting elements. In this regard, the execution of the “Light Ship Element” project in the Bandar Anzali Free Zone is an example of Erfan Sanat Company’s ability to turn big ideas into visual realities. This project, known as a ship urban element, has given a special visual beauty to its surroundings and has become a recreation spot for the people.

This structure, with dimensions of 9 meters in length, 3 meters in width, and 11 meters in height, is one of the largest lighting elements executed of its kind. The main goal in this project was to create a resistant visual symbol that could withstand the high humidity and heavy rainfall of coastal areas. Also, the placement of this design in an open space required strict compliance with safety and engineering standards for the lighting of squares and public environments.

Technical Specifications and Execution Details

For the execution of a large-scale ship lighting element in an open space, precision in structural calculations and the selection of suitable materials play a key role. This project, with a length of 9 meters, a width of 3 meters, and a height of 11 meters, required a solid foundation and framework to be resistant against the blowing winds and weather conditions of Bandar Anzali. 1. Substructure and Foundation (Safe Groundwork)

Considering the high weight of the metal structure and the installed lighting elements, the foundation of this project was exclusively designed. The main body of the ship is installed on solid concrete blocks with dimensions of 1.2 by 3 by 8 meters. For the secure connection of the structure to the ground, base plates with 15 mm sheets were used, which are reinforced in the concrete by 18 mm rebars in a grid (mat) pattern. Also, bolts with a diameter of 22 mm were used to mount the base plates onto the foundation to ensure the complete stability of the structure against lateral forces.

2. Metal Framework and Main Frame

The body and masts of the ship are made of a combination of standard metal profiles:

  • Masts: Use of 5-inch pipes for the main masts that have created the 11-meter height of the structure.
  • Main Structure: Use of 33, 22, and 4*4 box sections as the main chassis of the body.
  • Details: Use of size 2 and 3 flat bars and size 6 profiles to connect parts and create a suitable surface for installing the string lights. All connections are welded and protected with anti-rust coatings to have high durability against the humidity of the Caspian Sea.

3. Lighting System: String Lights and Neon

The beating heart of this luminous ship is its lighting system, which has been implemented with very high precision:

  • LED String Lights:

    • A total of more than 1140 meters of string lights with a low voltage of 24V DC have been used.
    • These strings are made of high-quality 0.1-watt LEDs and Epistar chips, which have a long lifespan and negligible lumen depreciation.
    • The internal wiring is of the 1*0.5 stranded type with a PVC coating resistant to UV and fire.
    • The IP67 protection degree means complete waterproofing against rain and humidity.
    • The light color used is Warm-White with a color temperature of 2400-2700 Kelvin, which induces a feeling of warmth and intimacy.
  • Neon Flex Lights:

    • About 800 meters of double-sided neon lights have been used to create curved lines and highlight the shape of the ship’s body.
    • These lights operate on 220V AC voltage and have a special driver to convert electricity to DC.
    • The light distribution in these lights is completely uniform, and no dark or hot spots are seen along the path.
    • High resistance to impact and environmental conditions is a prominent feature of this product.

This combination of string lights for covering large surfaces (like sails) and neon lights for creating delicate and attractive lines has caused the beach lighting at night to display a three-dimensional and vivid image of an old ship.

Intelligent Control and Energy Management System

One of the distinguishing features of this project is the use of advanced equipment for managing electricity consumption and ease of maintenance. In large urban projects like the Bandar Anzali beach lighting, energy saving and the simplicity of the control system are of special importance.

1. Erfan Sanat Central Box

To manage the entire lighting system of the ship, a central electrical box designed by Erfan Sanat Company has been used. This box is not just a junction for wires, but it is considered the precise control center of the project. The key features of this box include:

  • Complete Protection: A fully sealed (Waterproof) metal body that is resistant to the high humidity and heavy rains of Bandar Anzali.
  • Standard Components: Use of high-quality contactors, miniature circuit breakers, and standard rails for the safe installation of components.
  • 24-Volt Switching: Converting city electricity to the safe and low-consumption voltage required by LED lights, which both increases the lifespan of the lamps and provides greater safety.
  • Residual Current Device (RCD): Preventing city electricity fluctuations that can damage the drivers and power supplies.

2. Smartization and Remote Control

In this project, an effort has been made to create a smart system by combining electrical engineering and modern technologies, which, in addition to high stability, allows the user to control and adjust all the lighting parameters of the ship with easy access via a mobile application.

  • Astronomical Timer: This system automatically calculates the sunrise and sunset times based on the geographical location of Bandar Anzali. Therefore, the ship’s lights turn on exactly at sunset and turn off at sunrise. This not only optimizes electricity consumption but also eliminates the need for manual adjustment.
  • Control via Mobile Application: The ability to connect to a mobile application, as an advanced feature, provides a new interactive experience for users and enables real-time monitoring of the lighting status without the need to be physically present at the project site. Users and project managers can change lighting patterns or even adjust the color of the lights (if supported by the circuit) through their smartphones.

This level of control and smartization ensures that the luminous ship is always shining at its best and maintenance costs are kept to a minimum.

Structural Strength and Weather Resistance

Having high humidity and frequent rainfall, Bandar Anzali creates one of the harshest weather conditions for outdoor lighting projects. However, by utilizing high-quality materials and high manufacturing standards, the ship lighting element in this project has been designed and executed to be resistant to all weather factors.

1. Combating Humidity and Corrosion

All metal and electronic components used in this structure have an IP67 protection rating. This standard ensures that the LED string lights and electrical connections are completely waterproof and no moisture penetration occurs in them. Furthermore, the main metal structure, with appropriate protective coatings, is completely resistant to rust and corrosion caused by the humid air of the Caspian Sea.

2. Structural Stability Against Wind

Considering the 11-meter height and the large surface area of the sails, the structure is exposed to blowing winds. To ensure complete safety and stability, the concrete foundation has been designed with standard dimensions and reinforcement, and the body of the structure, using thick profiles and strong connections, shows high resistance against the lateral forces of the wind.

3. Very Easy Maintenance

In addition to high durability, the electrical supply system of this project has been designed in such a way that access to components for possible repairs is easy. The central electrical box, with its orderly arrangement of fuses and contactors, has facilitated the troubleshooting and maintenance process and increases the useful lifespan of the project.
