Technical Specifications and Structural Framework
For a large light ceiling to be able to operate for years without issues, the stability of this project against environmental forces directly depends on the quality of the structural design and the strength of its connections. In the Anzali “Galactic Light Ceiling” project, we used a combination of precise engineering and high-quality materials to ensure that this structure is not only beautiful but also highly stable.
Solid Foundation and Bracing
The first step in executing any large urban element is having solid foundations. We considered four 9-meter triplet bases as the main columns. To hold up this 24 by 24-meter ceiling, we used a system called “tensile bracing,” which acts similar to ship ropes.
- Steel Wire Ropes: Size 10 steel cables (wire ropes) were used to connect the bases to each other and to the ground turnbuckles. The total length of these wire ropes is about 200 meters, which well withstands wind pressure.
- Arrangement of String Lights: To arrange thousands of string lights side by side, we used finer wire ropes of sizes 1.5 and 2, totaling more than 1500 meters in length. This large number of wire ropes allows the string lights to hang evenly and neatly, giving the space under the ceiling a wavy and natural feel.
- Standard Connections: All connection points were reinforced with special metal parts (U-bolts) in various sizes (2, 6, and 12) so that no pressure is applied to a single specific point and the lifespan of the structure is increased.
Central Light Sphere
At the center of this ceiling, there is a luminous sphere with a diameter of 1.8 meters, which is built with an exclusive metal structure and connected to the top of the ceiling by thicker wire ropes. This sphere is not just a decoration; rather, it maintains the visual balance of the entire design and, when illuminated, draws the focus of attention to itself.
Lighting and String Lights
To create the “galactic” effect, we used 1600 meters of 220V LED string lights. The choice of 220V string lights was smart because it allows us to cover a vast area without severe light drop. The warm golden color of the string lights creates a beautiful contrast with the cool blue light of the central sphere, which gives a modern and eye-catching face to the boulevard.
Intelligent Control System; Remote Access
One of the distinguishing features of the “Galactic Light Ceiling” in the Anzali boulevard of Gilan is not just its visual beauty, but the smartness of the system that works behind the scenes. Central Electrical Box: All electrical connections of this large structure have been transferred to a standard central control box. This box, designed and assembled by the Erfan Sanat technical team, has high safety features:
- Complete Sealing: Considering the high humidity of Anzali, the electrical box is designed to be completely waterproof so that internal components are not damaged against rain and moisture.
- Standard Components: The use of high-quality contactors, residual current devices (RCD), and fast-acting fuses ensures that in case of any power fluctuation, the main system of the string lights does not suffer damage.
- Safe Voltage Conversion: City electricity (220V) is not directly connected to the string lights here; instead, it is converted to a safe 24V voltage through switching transformers. In addition to increasing the lifespan of the LEDs, this also ensures the safety of pedestrians.
Astronomical Timer and Mobile Control: To eliminate the need to manually turn the lights on and off, an “astronomical timer” is used. This device calculates the sun’s position and automatically adjusts the turn-on and turn-off times of the lights. Also, by using Erfan Sanat’s smart website, the user can change lighting patterns and colors remotely via a mobile phone.
