Idea Generation and Conceptual Design of the Project
Dolat Square in Khomeini Shahr, as one of the central points of the city, required a specific and unique element that could both symbolize urban progress and local culture and also provide a beautiful and modern appearance to the urban space. Accordingly, the luminous sphere project with a diameter of 4 meters and decorative bases was designed and executed to enhance the identity of the square as a prominent urban element.
This project was designed to create a glowing and attractive spectacle at night so that while beautifying the environment, it instills a sense of modernity and advanced technology in visitors. The lighting of the sphere, using full-color technology and smart control systems, simply allows for changing colors and various effects.
Structure and Design Features
The luminous sphere consists of four 90-degree sections, each made of 80 semi-circular metal branches with dimensions of 20×30 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. This combination creates a perfectly spherical and sturdy structure with an exact diameter of 4 meters.
The decorative bases, also known as Golpars, are designed with a height of 5 meters and are in the shape of six-sided petals that cover the main base of the sphere. Lit up, these bases create an artistic and visually appealing representation, and there is the possibility to install specific logos on them.
Technical Specifications of the Structure and Foundation
The implementation of the structure in Dolat Square in Khomeini Shahr required a solid and standard base to bear the weight of the sphere and decorative bases while also having the necessary resistance against various weather conditions. Therefore, the foundation is designed to ensure sufficient stability and strength.
The Golpar bases are placed in four pits of 1×1 meter with a depth of one meter, while the central base of the sphere is located in a larger pit with dimensions of 1.5×1.5 meters and a depth of 1.5 meters. This design helps distribute the load of the structure evenly to the ground.
Materials Used in the Foundation
In the foundation section, various sizes of rebar have been used. Rebar size 14 is used as a mesh network for transverse strength, rebar size 10 for ties around the rebars, and rebar size 20 as primary bolts to connect the structure to the foundation. This combination of materials enables the structure to withstand forces exerted on it, including wind and earthquakes.
Decorative Bases of Golpar
Three decorative bases around the sphere have been designed and constructed with a height of 5 meters, which are significant not only in terms of aesthetics but also in terms of structural importance. These bases are made from metal sheets with diverse dimensions of 2×1, 2×2, 4×4, and 6×6 centimeters to provide the necessary strength.
Metal sheets with thicknesses of 4, 10, and 12 millimeters have been precisely cut and used for shaping the bases. Moreover, the tops of the bases are connected by a 20-gauge steel beam to create a suitable place for placing the sphere.
Shaping and Strength of the Bases
The process of making the bases has been carried out using modern laser cutting technologies, which provide high precision and visual beauty. The total approximate weight of the base section of this element is estimated to be around 3400 kilograms, indicating its high strength. This strength protects the decorative bases against environmental pressures.
Metal Sphere and Its Unique Design
The luminous sphere portion consists of a metal structure that is divided into four 90-degree sections. Each section is made of 80 semi-circular metal branches made from a 20×30 mm tube with a 2 mm thickness. These branches are precisely stacked on top of each other, creating a complete spherical structure.
The main column of the sphere, serving as its pillar, is metal, with a diameter of 50 centimeters, a thickness of 3 mm, and a height of 5 meters. This tube ensures the overall strength of the structure and is surrounded by six-sided decorative bases that allow for lighting and logo installation.
Smart Lighting and Pixel Equipment
One of the most important parts of the project is its smart lighting system. In the luminous sphere of Dolat Square in Khomeini Shahr, a total of 80 strands of light strings, comprising 750 pixels, have been used. These pixels are full-color of 6 centimeters in size and can display the full spectrum of colors.
Features of the Pixels
Each pixel has 6 SMDs, and its input voltage is 12 volts. The power consumption of each pixel is approximately 1.5 watts, helping to save energy. Also, the pixels have an IP67 protection rating, indicating they are resistant to dust and water ingress.
To enhance durability, the body of the pixels is made of UV-treated polycarbonate, which has high resistance to sunlight. Their sealing is done with industrial resin to protect against harsh weather conditions.
Software Capabilities
The lighting of the sphere is controlled using an Android software that allows for easy changes in light dance types, effects, and display speeds. These features enable the sphere to present an attractive display with various colors and patterns for different occasions.
Central Box and Smart Control System
The control of the lighting for the sphere and bases is done by two intelligent central boxes. A 40-output 24-volt box for the sphere and a 16-output 24-volt box for the decorative bases have been installed. These systems are connected to a dedicated mobile software that provides extensive lighting management capabilities.
Software and Hardware Features
Some of the most important features of this system include the ability to control online from anywhere, program updates, automatic execution of programs for events using a smart calendar module, wireless networking of the boxes, and user-replaceable memory.
Additionally, each circuit has a separate fuse, and the metal control box is completely sealed, equipped with an air circulation system and contactor protection, designed to operate stably in any weather conditions.
Summary and Importance of the Project
The luminous sphere project of Dolat Square in Khomeini Shahr is a successful example of the integration of art, architecture, and modern technology in the design of urban elements. Using a sturdy metal structure, beautiful decorative bases, and smart lighting with full-color technology, this project has managed to provide a modern and unique appearance to the urban space.
This light element has not only added beauty to the square but has also improved the visual quality of the environment, increased tourist attraction, and enhanced the sense of urban identity. Professional design and the use of high-quality equipment guarantee the durability and long-term efficiency of this structure in various weather conditions.
